Medicinal and aromatic plants form a numerically large group of economically important plants which provide basic raw materials for medicines, perfumes, flavours and over the counter products of daily use. These plants and their products not only serve as valuable source of income for small land holding farmers and entrepreneurs but also earn valuable foreign exchange by way of export. CSIR-CIMAP has been dedicatedly working towards improving the utilization of the medicinal and aromatic plant resources. The varieties developed by CSIR-CIMAP have been used by the Indian farmers and entrepreneurs in good measure as evident by the increasing acceptability of the produce in the world market.

The present database documents more than 100 varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants that have been developed by CSIR-CIMAP based on the demand of the industry and years of research and field trials. The database will also serve as a reference resource for the growers, industries and researchers involved into this sector. Each plant has been described for its importance, applications and their characteristic features in terms of their morphology, agro and economical traits, quality based on its bioactive component and representative photograph.
